After a senior Justice Department official ordered that the corruption case against Eric Adams be dropped, the New York City mayor declared his legal troubles over and that it was time to “put this cruel episode behind us.”

Instead, Adams is facing a slew of calls to resign and renewed scrutiny from New York Governor Kathy Hochul — who has the power to remove him from office — after a top prosecutor raised concerns of a possible quid pro quo between the mayor and the Trump administration.
