Dentist Sentenced for Defrauding NBA Health Plan of $1.1 Million

A California dentist has been sentenced to three years in prison for his role in a scheme to defraud the National Basketball Association Players’ Health and Welfare Benefit Plan, according to the Justice Department Wednesday.

Between 2018 and 2019, Aamir Wahab falsely documented that former NBA players and their spouses received certain dental services when those services weren’t provided. He also charged the plan-issued debit cards of former players for services that were never conducted, said DOJ.

Wahab then reaped a portion of the fraud proceeds. In addition to his prison sentence, Wahab has been ordered to forfeit $458,576.50 ...
