Debt Collection Fraudster Loses Bid for Compassionate Release

A Buffalo, NY man who pleaded guilty to orchestrating a coercive debt collection scheme lost his bid for compassionate release, after a federal court said Tuesday he failed to demonstrate “extraordinary and compelling” reasons for his early release from home confinement.

Maurice Sessum’s arguments overlooked the fact that he isn’t incarcerated, but is on home confinement, distinguishing his case from most others, Judge Katherine Polk Failla said.

Sessum, the former co-owner of 4 Star Resolution LLC, cited various medical issues, but the court said he received appropriate medical treatment, both while incarcerated and during home confinement.
