CREW Wins FOIA Suit to Get DOJ Documents On Why Ex-Sen. Ensign Was Not Prosecuted

Justice Department documents from a closed investigation of former Sen. John Ensign (R-Nev.) will be provided to the watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) after a federal judge ruled in CREW’s favor in a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit (CREW v. U.S. Department of Justice).

In an Aug. 23 ruling, Judge John Bates of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia accepted CREW’s argument that the public should know more about how and why DOJ decided not to prosecute Ensign for trying to cover up an extramarital affair.
