A Sacramento certified public accountant, William Murray, was sentenced May 28 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California to nearly 20 years in prison for alleged offenses related to a $13 million-plus Ponzi scheme (United States v. Murray).
In a same-day statement, U.S. Attorney Benjamin Wagner said Murray, a former tax official, pleaded guilty in March to mail fraud and interference with tax administration in a Ponzi scheme.
