Court Rejects Contention That UIGEA Doesn’t Apply to Payment Processors

The U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York Feb. 7 rejected the argument that the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act does not apply to payment processors (United States v. Tzvetkoff, S.D.N.Y., 1:10-cr-00336-LAK, 2/7/12).

The defendants—Daniel Tzvetkoff, Isai Scheinberg, Raymond Bitar, Scott Tom, Brent Beckley, Nelson Burtnick, Paul Tate, Ryan Lang, Bradley Franzen, Ira Rubin, Chad Elie, and John Campos—were each charged with violations of the UIGEA, 31 U.S.C. §§5361–5367 (06 WCR 321, 4/22/11).

Beckley pleaded guilty Dec. 20 (06 WCR 1138, 12/30/11).
