WWII Crash Site Contractor Sold U.S. Gear on eBay, Feds Say (1)

A Coast Guard contractor hired in 2013 to support recovery efforts at a suspected World War II era aircraft crash site in Greenland violated the False Claims Act by keeping U.S.-owned equipment and selling it on eBay, according to a new complaint filed by federal prosecutors.

North South Polar Inc. and its CEO Luciano A. Sapienza knew the contract required returning equipment purchased to fulfill requirements, and for which the company had been reimbursed, but knowingly refused to return it, the government told the U.S. District Court for the District of Maine on Thursday.

The defendants are liable for $14,702 ...
