Clinical Laboratory Settles FCA Allegations for $16 Million

Inform Diagnostics Inc., based in Irving, Texas, has agreed to pay $16 million to resolve allegations that it submitted claims for payment to Medicare and other federal health-care programs for medically unnecessary tests, the Department of Justice announced Wednesday.

Inform, formerly known as Miraca Life Sciences Inc., admitted to routinely and automatically conducting additional tests on biopsy specimens before a pathologist’s review, the department said.

This practice caused medically unnecessary tests to be performed by the clinical laboratory between 2013 and 2018, for which Inform then submitted claims for payment to federal health care programs, according to the DOJ. ...
