Two Chinese nationals have been convicted for their role in a fake iPhone scheme intending to cause a loss of more than $3 million to Apple, the US Justice Department said in a press statement on Tuesday.
Haotian Sun and Pengfei Xue, alongside co-conspirators, submitted more than 5,000 counterfeit iPhones to Apple for repair with the goal of the company exchanging them for genuine replacements.
Sun and Xue were convicted of mail fraud and conspiracy to commit mail fraud, said the DOJ. They each face a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
