California Man Sentenced to Year in Prison for Jan. 6 Actions

A California man was sentenced to 12 months and one day in prison after he previously pleaded guilty to a felony charge related to his conduct during the Jan. 6, 2021, breach of the US Capitol, the Justice Department announced Oct. 28.

According to the DOJ, Jay James Johnston was among a mob of rioters amassed on the Lower West Plaza of the Capitol building near an area known as the “Tunnel,” where stood among the crowd, behind a row of police barricades, filming the events on his cell phone.
