“Bruno Block,” the founder of the cryptocurrency “Oyster Pearl,” has been sentenced to four years in prison for tax offenses committed in connection with the token, the Justice Department said Tuesday.
Amir Bruno Elmaani previously pleaded guilty before Judge Colleen McMahon, of the US District Court for the Southern District of New York, on April 5. He admitted he had secretly minted and sold Pearl cryptocurrency tokens for his own gain, which caused the price of Pearl tokens to plummet, and that he did not pay income tax on certain cryptocurrency profits, according to the DOJ.
