An Alabama-based doctor has agreed to plead guilty in connection with a $6 million telemedicine fraud scheme involving medically unnecessary durable medical equipment and genetic testing, the US Attorney’s Office for the District of Massachusetts said Monday.
Tommie Robinson worked with telemedicine companies between December 2018 and March 2021, signing medical documentation for unnecessary durable medical equipment and genetic testing based on telemarketing calls to Medicare beneficiaries he never had contact with. DME suppliers and laboratories then submitted over $6 million in claims to Medicare for these medically unnecessary services tainted by kickbacks.
