Accountant Gets Five-Year Sentence For Filing False Tax Returns

LOS ANGELES—A Los Angeles-area accountant and tax return preparer was sentenced April 24 to 60 months in federal prison after admitting that he prepared fraudulent returns and submitted false documents to the Internal Revenue Service, IRS-Criminal Investigation announced (United States v. Placencia).

Mario Placencia was also ordered by U.S. District Judge S. James Oteroto to pay $1.2 million in restitution to IRS within 90 days.
