World Trade Center Bombing Conspirator Wins Prison Prayer Appeal

Ahmad Ajaj, who’s serving a 114-year prison sentence for his role in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, can seek damages from prison officials who allegedly denied him Halal meals and curtailed his access to Muslim group prayer, a federal appeals court in Denver ruled Wednesday.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit revived parts of the case, saying a district court judge made a “clear error” in ruling that Ajaj’s claims under the Religious Freedom Restoration Act were rendered moot by his transfer to a prison with more permissive meal policies and prayer rules.
