Winston & Strawn has hired Dan Blouin, former chair of Seyfarth Shaw’s commercial class action defense practice group, as a partner in Chicago.
Blouin is a veteran litigator who has handled more than 75 class action cases in state and federal courts, representing clients in industries ranging from retail to health care, transportation, financial services, insurance and manufacturing, according to the firm. He also has experience handling multi-district litigation.
Blouin, who spent nearly three decades at Seyfarth, said he made the switch after being approached by Winston’s management..
Blouin said he was drawn to Winston’s status as a “litigation powerhouse” and its “ability to help me staff my cases literally coast to coast.”
Blouin added that Seyfarth remains a great firm. “I had 29 great years there,” he said.
Blouin said he will continue to represent many of his existing clients and also hopes to join Winston partners on other complex commercial litigation matters.
“Dan is a highly skilled litigator with deep experience in exactly the kind of litigation that has always been our bread and butter—complex, high-stakes cases that require creativity and business sense,” Winston’s Chicago managing partner Linda Coberly said in a statement. “Clients rely on him to manage complex litigation efficiently and cost-effectively, and look to him for his expertise in their specific businesses and industries, particularly in times of uncertainty.”
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Blouin began his new role at Winston & Strawn from his home office. But he said the transition has been relatively seamless so far.
“Within hours, I had computers and monitors and VOIP phones and headsets and everything I needed to be up and running,” he said.
News of the move follows Winston & Strawn’s announcement earlier this week that it had hired three health care partners in Washington, including two laterals from McDermott Will & Emery and a former compliance counsel from pharmaceutical company Bristol-Myers Squibb.
