Washington High Court Narrows Instacart’s Covid Pay Law Dispute

Instacart parent company Maplebear Inc. and a food industry group shouldn’t get to pursue some claims in their challenge to a Seattle law guaranteeing delivery drivers extra pay during the pandemic, Washington state’s top court said Thursday.

Seattle passed an ordinance requiring food delivery companies to pay gig workers at least $2.50 extra for each online order they fulfilled during the coronavirus emergency. Instacart and the Washington Food Industry Association challenged the ordinance on statutory and constitutional grounds.
