Exxon Mobil Corp., Chevron Corp., BP P.L.C, and other fossil fuel majors lost their bid to have Washington, D.C.'s climate tort suit tossed.

The District of Columbia Superior Court heard arguments in the case in March, weighing claims from the D.C. attorney general’s office that companies had engaged in consumer fraud by lying about their contributions to climate change. Judge Yvonne Williams denied the companies’ motions to dismiss April 21, except for one claim against BP P.L.C. and BP America over its Invigorate product.
