Warner Bros. Entertainment asked a California state court to block Village Roadshow Productions from adding parent company Warner Media LLC to a lawsuit over the release of films on HBO Max the same day those movies arrive in theaters.
Village Roadshow alleges that Warner Bros. rushed the release date of “The Matrix: Resurrections” and engaged in a “clandestine plan” to materially reduce box office revenue that Village Roadshow would be entitled to, “in exchange for driving subscription revenue for the new HBO Max service, for which Warner Media would be the sole beneficiary.”
