The Senate Judiciary Committee again delayed votes on two nominees for federal judgeships in Mississippi who’ve struggled for over a month to advance out of the Republican-led panel.
Chair Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) didn’t specify at a committee meeting on Thursday why votes were postponed for a sixth time for James Maxwell and Robert Chamberlin, both Mississippi Supreme Court justices.
Grassley told Bloomberg Law on Oct. 29 that the two have been having some “trouble” within the panel that Republicans control with a 12-10 majority. A committee spokesperson said the issue is unrelated to the individual nominees or their records.
