Virginia shouldn’t enforce its law requiring absentee ballots to be signed by someone other than the voter while it battles a public health crisis and operates under coronavirus emergency orders, according to a lawsuit filed Friday in federal court.
Viriginians have been ordered to stay at home until at least June 10, 2020, but local elections are scheduled for May 5. The state has nearly 7,500 Covid-19 cases, with more than 900 cases reported since Wednesday.
