Vendors in 8(a) Small Business Program Face Changes at SBA

An audit of the Small Business Administration’s 8(a) business development program will likely worry vendors and agencies that have been accustomed to steady growth in the use of set-aside contracts under the program.

Obligations to 8(a) vendors increased year-over-year nearly every year over the last decade, according to Bloomberg Government data.

Companies can qualify for the 8(a) program if they establish eligibility, such as majority business ownership and control by a socially and economically disadvantaged person. They can hold that certification for up to nine years.
