The Senate confirmed Salvador Mendoza Jr. to a seat on the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
Mendoza, who served as a federal trial court judge in the Eastern District of Washington since 2014, was confirmed 46-40 on Monday.
He previously served as a Washington State Superior Court Judge and as a local prosecutor.
Mendoza would be the first Hispanic on the Ninth Circuit from Washington state.
His parents immigrated to the US from Mexico and worked as farm laborers, maids and factory workers, Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) noted in a statement praising his nomination.
