US, NewsGuard Avoid Consortium News’ Trustworthiness Rating Suit

A Consortium for Independent Journalism Inc. lawsuit accusing the US and NewsGuard Technologies Inc. of defamation and violation of the First Amendment have been thrown out by a federal court in New York.

The organization, which operates the website Consortium News failed to allege any state action in its claim against NewsGuard and the US didn’t waive its sovereign immunity for the speech claim against it, Judge Katherine Polk Failla of the US District Court for the Southern District of New York said.
