The United States must face tort claims brought by a woman who says two transportation security officers searched her invasively at an airport while she was pregnant, a federal appeals court said Wednesday.
TSOs are “any officer of the United States who is empowered by law to execute searches, to seize evidence, or to make arrests for violations of Federal law” under a proviso of the Federal Tort Claims Act that waives sovereign immunity for intentional torts they commit, Judge Barbara Lagoa said for the US Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.
