A New York federal trial court judge who rescinded plans to take senior status unless his successor lives and works in the Utica, N.Y., area is the latest example of judges changing their minds about vacating a life-tenured seat.
David Hurd, who sits in the Utica courthouse of the US District Court for the Northern District of New York, informed President Joe Biden of his decision in a July 14 letter obtained by Bloomberg Law after the White House announced plans to nominate an attorney from Albany to the seat.
