University of Arizona Sheds Suit Over Athlete’s Girlfriend Abuse

The University of Arizona avoided civil rights claims by a former student who alleges she was assaulted by a member of the school football team, after the Ninth Circuit found the school had no control over the off-campus residence where the assaults occurred.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit affirmed dismissal Tuesday of Mackenzie Brown’s claim that the university violated Title IX by failing to respond to reports of prior domestic abuse by her ex-boyfriend Orlando Bradford against other victims, giving him an opportunity to abuse her.
