Uber Win in Imposter Driver Sexual Assault Case Appealed

A woman who accused Uber Technologies Inc. of creating an opportunity for predators posing as drivers to sexually assault riders Wednesday asked a federal appeals court to overturn summary judgment granted to the ride-hailing service.

Identified only as Jane Doe, the woman said she got into a vehicle after a third party used the Uber app to arrange a ride and was assaulted. The driver had downloaded the Uber logo and taped it to his vehicle but was not an authorized driver. The court granted summary judgment for the company, finding it owed Doe no duty of care.
