U.S. Solicitor General Elizabeth Prelogar received ethics waivers to participate in consequential Supreme Court cases, including affirmative action, gun rights, and abortion.
The Biden administration’s top lawyer at the court obtained waivers for five cases partially stemming from briefs filed by her former firm Cooley LLP, where she was an appellate litigator and partner, and a past role with Harvard Law School. The waivers were included in a Feb. 7 filing with the U.S. Office of Government Ethics.
Waivers aren’t uncommon and are necessary when a previous relationship or financial interest might question impartiality, according to the ethics regulation. ...
