U.S. Backs Reinstatement of South Korea Contract Bribery Case

The U.S. Supreme Court shouldn’t consider whether a criminal bribery case against a South Korea-based defense official is time-barred under the Wartime Suspension of Limitations Act, the government said.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit revived seven counts of a 2017 indictment against Duane Nishiie, overruling a lower court.

The WSLA stops the clock on the statute of limitations for wartime fraud, property, and contract offenses until five years after hostilities cease.
