Four federal law enforcement nominees are being delayed by Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.), who is concerned that Justice Department may not be paying legal fees of deputy marshals sued for their role in 2020 Black Lives Matter protests.
Senate Judiciary Chair Richard Durbin (D-Ill.) criticized Cotton on Thursday for holding up consideration of two of the president’s U.S. attorney picks—for the U.S. Virgin Islands and the Northern District of Ohio—and two U.S. marshal choices—for the Northern District of Illinois, which covers Chicago, and Minnesota.
