Twitter Beats Suit From User Banned Over ‘Misgendering’ Tweets

A freelance journalist’s allegations that Twitter Inc.'s suspension of her account and removal of messages criticizing transgender women violated California law are barred by the Communications Decency Act, a state appeals court said Friday.

Meghan Murphy writes primarily on feminist issues, and had a verified Twitter account with over 25,000 followers. The company forced her to remove tweets including those that stated “men aren’t women,” and “how are trans women not men? What is the difference between a man and a trans woman?” because those tweets violated its Hateful Conduct Policy, she said.
