Trump Turns to Ohio AG’s Office, Florida Court for New Judges

A state court judge and a longtime state government attorney are President Donald Trump’s newest picks for federal judgeships.

Trump announced on social media Wednesday that he would nominate Chief Judge Jeffrey Kuntz of Florida’s Fourth District Court of Appeal to an open seat on the Southern District of Florida.

Kuntz was appointed to the state court by then-Gov. Rick Scott (R) in 2016, and he became chief judge in July. He earlier practiced at the law firm GrayRobinson, and graduated from the Boston-based Suffolk University Law School in 2006.

If confirmed, Kuntz will be Trump’s seventh judicial appointment to the South Florida court across his two administrations.

Trump said he was also nominating Michael “Mike” Hendershot to a seat on the Northern District of Ohio. Hendershot is the chief deputy solicitor general in the Ohio attorney general’s office, where he has served since 2011, according to his LinkedIn.

Hendershot earlier worked at the Ohio-based law firm Vorys, and clerked for Judge Jerry Smith on the US Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.
