President Donald Trump proposed cutting 4,000 full time employees at the US Department of Labor next fiscal year, axing a quarter of the agency’s current workforce.
Trump in his fiscal year 2026 budget requested funding for 10,879 full time employees at the DOL, according to the agency’s budget in brief released Friday, a drop from its current level of 14,855.
Such a staffing cut would need to be approved by Congress, even after the president has tried to use his executive powers to reduce the workforce at the DOL this year.
