President Donald Trump announced plans to nominate Milwaukee federal prosecutor Rebecca Taibleson to a seat on the US Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.

Trump announced his pick for a seat in Wisconsin on the Chicago-based federal appeals court Thursday on the social media platform TruthSocial.

Taibleson is currently an assistant US attorney for the Eastern District of Wisconsin, where she also co-leads the office’s appellate division, according to the Justice Department website and her LinkedIn profile.

She was one of the five candidates recommended by a bipartisan Wisconsin judicial nominating commission whose names were forwarded by Sens. Ron Johnson (R) and Tammy Baldwin (D) to the White House.

Taibleson previously worked as assistant to the US solicitor general and clerked for Justice Brett Kavanaugh, while he was a judge on the Washington federal appeals court, and for the late Justice Antonin Scalia. She testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee in 2018 in support of Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court.

“Rebecca will make a fantastic Judge who will fearlessly defend the Constitution, and strongly uphold the Rule of Law,” Trump wrote.

If confirmed, Taibleson would replace Judge Diane Sykes, a George W. Bush-appointee who announced plans to take senior status, a form of semi-retirement, beginning in October.

Taibleson would be Trump’s sixth federal appeals court nominee of his second term. Two of his appellate picks have been confirmed so far, including Emil Bove, who will sit on the US Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit despite allegations of misconduct while serving as a Justice Department official.
