Trump Could Have Sent Military to Chicago, Official Tells Court

President Donald Trump’s administration told the US Supreme Court that he could have sent active-duty military troops to Chicago to help enforce federal immigration laws, as he urged the court to instead let him deploy the National Guard.

Renewing his call to lift lower court rulings that are blocking the National Guard deployment, US Solicitor General D. John Sauer told the court that the president has sweeping discretion to dispatch the military forces of his choosing to deal with domestic disturbances.
