Trump Attorney Among Circuit Picks Advanced by Senate Panel (1)

The Senate Judiciary Committee advanced the nominations of two Donald Trump appellate picks, including another of his personal attorneys.

The panel on Thursday voted 12-10 to send the nominations of Matthew Schwartz to the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and Ben Flowers to the Sixth Circuit to the full Senate for consideration. Both tallies were along party lines in the Republican-controlled committee.

Several of the president’s recent court picks have spurred questions from Democrats about judicial independence, especially about the future loyalties of those who represented him in legal matters.
