Transgender athletes cited in a suit against Connecticut school districts seeking to bar transgender students from participating in girls track and field events may intervene in the case as defendants, the District of Connecticut said.
The plaintiffs allege that allowing transgender students to participate in the girls’ program amounts to discrimination against girls in violation of Title IX.
“This discriminatory policy is now regularly resulting in boys displacing girls in competitive track events in Connecticut,” the complaint alleged.
Title IX forbids education programs or activities receiving federal financial assistance from discriminating against persons based on their sex.
