Texas Retirement-Plan Law Survives Suit Over Support for Israel

A suit challenging a Texas law that required state-sponsored retirement plans to divest holdings in companies that don’t support Israel was properly dismissed, the Fifth Circuit said.

Haseeb Abdullah, who has been both a state and local employee and is covered by the Texas Employee Retirement System and the Texas County and District Retirement System, claimed that the divestment provision violated his First Amendment and due process rights. But the per curiam appellate opinion said that a federal district court properly concluded that Abdullah lacked standing to bring the suit.
