Texas, Others Challenge Immigrants’ Abortion Rights

Texas is leading a coalition of 11 states seeking reversal of a decision allowing an undocumented immigrant teen in U.S. custody to have an abortion over the federal government’s objections.

Texas Solicitor General Scott Keller argued the decision would “incentivize even more unlawful immigration” to the U.S., in an amicus brief filed in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit July 6.

The U.S. Supreme Court in early June vacated an emergency order from that court that allowed the teen to obtain an abortion. The case was moot because she already had the abortion, the Supreme Court said. ...
