Texas Library Denies Its Book Culling Breaches First Amendment

Llano County, Texas, public library patrons who allege certain titles were removed from shelves because officials disapproved of their viewpoint or content haven’t shown that their First Amendment rights were violated, library officials said in a recent court filing.

Patrons contend the books including “Caste: The Origins of Our Discontent,” and “Being Jazz: My Life as a (Transgender) Teen” were impermissibly placed in a special, uncatalogued collection behind a desk because they advance the position that systemic racial disparities exist in the US or express favorable views of the LGBTQ community.
