Texas Democrats Sue to Block New Early Voting Restrictions

State and national Democratic groups are suing Texas in federal court, seeking to block a new state law they say severely and unconstitutionally limits the availability of early voting, particularly for college students.

House Bill 1888 goes into effect Sept. 1, 2020. It requires that early voting at any polling place in a Texas county must be available on the same weekdays as at the county’s main early voting polling place, and that any early voting polling place must stay open for at least eight hours on each weekday it’s open, according to the complaint from the Texas Democratic Party, ...
