Texas Burn Victim Gets Samsung Suit Reinstated by Fifth Circuit

A federal appeals court on Wednesday reversed the dismissal of a burn suit against Samsung SDI Co. based on lack of personal jurisdiction because the company had sufficient contacts with Texas through its business contracts.

The US Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit said in a split opinion that Samsung “purposefully availed itself of the privilege of doing business in Texas through its multi-year” contracts with Black & Decker, HP, and Dell for its 18650 batteries.
