Tennessee’s Age, Reason Abortion Restrictions Blocked for Now

Two new Tennessee laws restricting abortions based on a fetus’s gestational age or race, sex, or prenatal diagnosis of Down syndrome may not take effect until their validity can be considered further, a federal court in the state said Monday.

Memphis Center for Reproductive Health and other abortion providers who challenged the laws are likely to succeed on the merits of their claim that both restrictions unduly burden a woman’s constitutional due process right to end a pregnancy before a fetus would be able to live outside the womb, the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee said. ...
