T-Mobile Sued Over Facial Recognition Use in New York Stores

T-Mobile US Inc.'s use of facial recognition to prevent theft in its stores violates New York City law, according to a new lawsuit.

Valeriia Borzenkova claims T-Mobile collected her biometric data during visits to at least four locations in New York without her consent. The proposed class action, filed Tuesday in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York, alleges that T-Mobile profited from the collection while creating harms for consumers, including risk of misuse of the sensitive data.
