Supreme Court Turns Down Hospital’s Data-Breach Immunity Bid

The Supreme Court on Monday declined to hear a case testing a hospital’s assertion of immunity from liability for a data breach on the basis of its status as an employee of the US Public Health Service.

The court’s decision leaves in place a Fourth Circuit ruling rejecting the argument of Sandmills Medical Foundation Inc. that it was immune from a proposed patient class action over the exposure of personal information in a 2020 cyberattack.
