Supreme Court to Consider Power of Judges to Sentence Fugitives

The US Supreme Court agreed to consider whether individuals deemed fugitives can be sentenced for release violations that occurred after their supervised release was originally set to expire.

The case taken up by the justices on Monday involves the so-called fugitive-tolling doctrine, which pauses the time served on supervised release after a person has absconded and is considered a fugitive.
