Supreme Court Takes on Another Railroad Retirement Tax Act Case (1)

The U.S. Supreme Court will review a case on whether a railroad’s payment to an employee for lost work time is taxable under the Railroad Retirement Tax Act.

The high court granted review of BNSF Railway Co.'s case in its May 14 order list. This is the second time this term that the Supreme Court has taken on a case involving the RRTA, and a decision could make it clearer what types of compensation are subject to tax under the statute.
