Supreme Court Sets Monday for Opinions Amid Wait for Trump Case

The US Supreme Court scheduled Monday as a new opinion day — and signaled the term will continue beyond then — as the justices wind down a session that includes a clash over President Donald Trump’s bid for criminal immunity.

The court, which still has six cases left to resolve, was already planning on issuing rulings on Friday. In addition to Trump’s bid to avoid federal prosecution for his efforts to overturn the 2020 election results, the court will be ruling on regulatory power and social media in the coming days.

Chief Justice John Roberts traditionally announces the last day of the term from the bench and could do so on Monday.

In a blockbuster Thursday, the court tossed out Purdue Pharma LP’s $6 billion opioid settlement, curbed the Securities and Exchange Commission’s ability to press complaints before in-house judges, confirmed it will let abortions take place in medical emergencies in Idaho for the time being and blocked a Biden administration rule that would mean stringent new emissions requirements.
