Supreme Court Removes Census Case From Argument Calendar

Jan. 18, 2019, 9:38 PM UTC

The U.S. Supreme Court scrapped plans for a Feb. 19 argument involving the Trump administration’s plan to add a citizenship question to the 2020 census.

The move came after a federal trial judge this week barred the Commerce Department from including the question.

The Supreme Court had been poised to consider a preliminary issue in the case. The decision Jan. 18 to drop the February argument doesn’t preclude the court from scheduling arguments later if the Trump administration seeks review.
