Supreme Court Invites Ex-Roberts Clerk to Argue Immigration Case

The US Supreme Court invited a former clerk of Chief Justice John Roberts to argue the opposing side of an immigration dispute over a 30-day filing deadline for appealing a removal order.

The court on Tuesday invited Stephen J. Hammer, an associate in the Dallas office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, to step in after the Biden administration agreed the US Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit wrongly ruled it didn’t have jurisdiction to hear a Jamaican native’s appeal.
